A HOUSING-FIRST MODEL FOR NATIONAL SERVICE

Serve your country, your way.

The American Service Project strengthens communites by making national service a realistic and rewarding path to adulthood for young Americans.

ASP meets the basic needs of participants by creating community hubs capable of housing large cohorts. A cost-share model for housing, meals, and transportation lowers the cost of supporting each participant, creates a built-in support network, and makes service a viable option rather than a future-delaying sacrifice.

The ASP model is designed to complement and empower existing service organizations, not compete with them. Housing support is a primary limiting factor in many programs and entirely absent in others. Placements can be scattered and inconsistent, while stipends are often inadequate to support stability.

By supporting a motivated volunteer force and partnering with multiple nonprofit organizations and public works departments within each community, a wide array of local needs can be met by a single cohort.

At ASP, we believe in earning your place. There is no cost to participate in the standard program. Participants are expected to show up, do their part, and maintain the behavioral standards expected by ASP. In return, graduates experience meaningful work, form eduring relationships, and leave with zero debt, practical skills, and connections that last well beyond a service term.

ASP gives partners the opportunity to invest in responsibility rather than dependency, and to earn lasting loyalty by helping young Americans become stable, capable, and grateful adults.

By removing barriers to service, ASP offers true equality of opportunity to Americans from every region, income level, and background who are willing to contribute. What participants build on the foundation formed with ASP is up to them.
